The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported a minor earthquake in the Banda Sea at 1.13am earlier today (July 7).
The earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 119 kilometres, with its epicentre located at coordinates 7.3 degrees south and 129.8 degrees east. It was approximately 433 kilometres southeast of Ambon, Indonesia.
Fortunately, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia as a result of the earthquake.
