KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has made a minor reshuffle among its office bearers in an effort to strengthen the party, said its president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
He said the restructuring was nothing out of the ordinary and was done to strengthen the party in accordance with its constitution.
“The posts affected are the secretary-general and the deputy, treasurer-general and the deputy, publicity officer and the deputy, as well as appointed members of the supreme council,” he said.
He disclosed this during the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) appreciation dinner following the 15th General Election (GE15) last night (Feb 12).
Salang also expressed his gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for agreeing to nominate six representatives from PRS to contest in GE15.
“We are also making history by having the first Dayak woman (Sri Aman Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie) become a representative at the federal level,” he added.
Meanwhile Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the election victory could result in a better state governance.
Sarawak, he remarked, now has the chance to advance even more towards a sustainable development while also boosting its economy in the middle of a pandemic.
“With our convincing mandate, our beloved state will be more able to move towards sustainable development and repair the economy amid a continuing recovery from Covid-19,” he said in his speech read by PDP Secretary-General Datuk Nelson Balang Rining.
Tiong assured that PDP will continue to play its role in spearheading and implementing the policies of the state government that emphasise Sarawak’s sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of Sarawakians.
He noted that the Sarawak government is doing this in an inclusive way that honours the multi-racial and multi-ethnic makeup of the state.
“This is the hallmark of Sarawak, one that we must do everything to preserve for generations to come,” he added.
