KUCHING: Sarawak has been progressing well over the past 60 years with prospects of even brighter future in the future.
Political observer Datuk Peter Minos said things have changed in Sarawak since it gained independence, from visible public utilities and facilities to education and skills of the people.
With the emergence of new industries he is confident that Sarawak will further reap progress and advancement in various aspects.
“I still remember how I was a Form 2 schoolboy in SMK Bau when we heard that Sarawak would be free of British colonialism and gain self-governance on July 22 in 1963. Just like everyone else, I was very happy and excited about this.
“We were excited because we were about to be free and liberated from foreign domination. Happy because we would be led by our own local leaders and no longer controlled or strangled by foreign rulers,” he said in his Sarawak Day message today.
Minos said the success of l Sarawak stemmed from its people’s hardiness and resilience who eagerly and steadfastly worked together for the betterment of Sarawak.
“I see a happy and bright future for Sarawak in the years to come. It may not be a bed of roses, but there will definitely be much social and economic progress as well as more unity and prosperity,” he added.
