KUCHING: Contractors and the Public Works Department (JKR) have come in for praise from Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) for improving the dual-lane road at Jalan Mohd Musa.
Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos said that prior to the dual-lane road improvement the situation from the Intan roundabout in Kota Samarahan to Kota Sentosa has been a bane to Samarahan residents as they have to go through horrendous traffic during peak hours.
Minos was happy to note that the dual-lane road will be fully completed by September and that works are currently going on according to schedule.
He also revealed that the contractor, Musyati Development Sdn Bhd, is expected to construct a special parking lot by the roadside for SMK Muara Tuang.
“The special parking lot was an appeal and request of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council.
“As previously requested by the school and parents, this is the least that MPKS could do for the school that is in dire need of a parking space for parents to park while waiting for their children,” he said.
There will be 140 street lights installed along the whole stretch of Jalan Mohd Musa which will be of great relief to road users.
“The council is very happy that JKR and Musyati will be erecting street lights. The road signage will be lighted and this will provide safety for road users at night,” he said.
Musyati will restore and improve the bus stops and bin centres along Jalan Mohd Musa with public safety in mind.
Minos also noted that traffic congestion will be partly resolved with the completion of Jalan Mohd Musa in September, and when the traffic lights system in Kota Samarahan at the three roundabouts are completed by November.
“The ART (autonomous rapid transit) is also set to start soon, this is indeed great news for MPKS,” he said.
