KUCHING: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will upgrade its waste treatment plant and waste management plan for the safety of the public and hygienic environment.

Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos said human faeces and domestic waste must be well managed and treated to protect the environment and health of the public.

“For domestic waste in Samarahan, we will talk, demand and enforce that our contractors to strictly abide to the agreed collection schedules that we planned.

“That is three times per week for the towns, two times for the villages and daily for the commercial areas.

“We apply similar standard to our human waste collection contractors. So far they are pretty professional with their job,” said Minos after visiting the SarAlam water treatment plant in Matang this morning.

He added MPKS has been tasked with adopting modern methods to treat and manage domestic waste in its jurisdiction.

He stressed that waste must be handled carefully and must not pose human or environmental hazards.

“Every government in the world wants proper and proper treatment for all kinds of waste in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

“We in MPKS respect SGD and government policies on the matter in line with our motto – Clean, Green and Safe,” he said.
