MIRI: The 15th edition of the Miri City Christmas Parade will be held here on Dec 7 with a line-up of performances, floats, and giving away of donations to local charities.
The event is slated to begin at 5 pm at Miri City Fan, a popular gathering space in the heart of the city.
It is organised by the Miri City Council (MCC) in collaboration with local churches.
This year, international guests from Miri’s Friendship Cities — La Trinidad (Philippines), Singkawang City (Indonesia), and Gochang-gun (South Korea) — have been invited, reinforcing Miri’s dedication to cultural exchange and friendship.
“Participating churches will showcase their uniquely decorated Christmas floats, bringing a joyful and cheerful Christmas spirit to Miri,” said Mayor Adam Yii in a press conference on Monday.
He expressed hope that the parade would attract even larger crowds this year.
One of the highlights will be a performance by celebrated Iban artiste Melissa Francis, who will join other musicians and dancers from the participating churches.
In addition to traditional and contemporary music performances, the event will feature praise and worship sessions, dancing, and a Christmas concert to mark the festive season.
The parade will wind through some of Miri’s central streets, including Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Kingsway, and Jalan Bendahara, creating a trail of lights and festive decor through the city before returning to Miri City Fan.
In keeping with the Christmas spirit of giving, donations collected during the parade will go towards local charities.
