MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has been awarded the Silver prize in the Human Centricity category at the Seoul Smart City Prize 2024, a prestigious event recognising cities globally for advancements in smart and inclusive urban development.
The award ceremony took place in Seoul, recently, with Miri’s deputy mayor Ariffin Mohamad accepting the honour on behalf of the council.
The Human Centricity category highlights city governments that prioritize social inclusion through forward-thinking policies, services, and technology-driven solutions.
This accolade underscores Miri City’s commitment to building a smart city that values inclusivity, accessibility, and digital innovation, aiming to meet the diverse needs of its community.
“This award is a testament to our vision for Miri as an inclusive, connected, and resilient city,” Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said.
“We are dedicated to bridging the digital divide and creating solutions that serve everyone, especially vulnerable groups like the elderly, youth, and differently abled individuals.”
Along with the honour, MCC will now have the opportunity to showcase its winning project on a global scale.
This includes invitations to participate in capacity-building training programs, international exhibitions, and major global conferences.
Additionally, MCC has been invited to present an award at the 2025 Seoul Smart City Prize, reflecting its standing as a leader in smart city initiatives.
The recognition also opens doors for future partnerships on smart city projects, including potential funding for feasibility studies.
MCC views this achievement as an essential milestone in enhancing the quality of life for its citizens through sustainable, innovative solutions, and expresses gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to this shared vision.
