MIRI: The Miri City Council is seeking funds from the National Landscape Department for an overall improvement to the Miri Public Park in terms of facilities, re-landscaping and beautification works.
The latest effort to secure the funds was made by the council in mid-January when the council’s delegation outlining their justifications to the National Landscape Department in Kuala Lumpur.
“In light of the size (24.6 acres of developed park area) and numerous unique facilities in this popular public park which was developed in 1997, the council has constantly experienced constraints to obtain enough allocation for maintenance and upkeep,” it said in a statement today (Feb 10).
Apart from considering public feedback, the council said it will continue its annual maintenance works to the landscape, including water feature and children’s water-play areas.
However, for the sake of public safety, the council has been decided that the children’s playground section next to the food and drink stalls area will be temporarily closed to enable proper repair and maintenance works to be carried out.
“Under the annual budget mid-term review, we intend to utilise the Council Reserve Fund for more allocations for the park while awaiting the outcome of our fund application to National Landscape Department,” the council added.
