Miri community’s charity initiatives earn praise

MIRI: Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has praised the community, enterprises and private sectors here for consistently organising charity events to support the less fortunate. 

He commended their efforts during the Miri Marriott Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Monday night (Nov 13).

Cr Nicholas Toh, reading Lee’s speech, conveyed the minister’s appreciation for the community’s initiatives, describing them as a complement to the government’s humanitarian efforts to uplift those in need.

The event, attended by Miri & Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa general manager Marc Cosyns and 20 children from Miri Sunflower Centre with their teachers, marked the 17th anniversary of the Miri Marriott Christmas Wish Tree Project.

Ever since its inception, this project has benefitted thousands of children, including those from the Sunflower Centre, community-based rehabilitation centres in Miri, Sarawak Children Cancer Society, National Autism Society of Malaysia, Miri Branch; Miri 

As part of the project, associates from Miri Marriott personally distribute gifts to the children each year.

For 2023, a total of 153 children from Miri Sunflower Centre and Miri Hospital Children Ward will be beneficiaries of this charity project.

In support of the project, Lee pledged a total of RM3,000.
