MIRI: The police seized nearly two kilogrammes of drugs, including ecstasy and Erimin 5, in a major bust on Monday night, following the arrest of a local man suspected trafficker.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a joint operation by officers from the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and the Miri district police headquarters led to the arrest of the suspect at an entertainment centre here at 11.45 pm on Oct 21.

During the raid, officers found a black sling bag containing what appeared to be 38.90gm of ecstasy.

A further search uncovered a second bag and a black plastic package containing an additional 1,960.30gm of ecstasy and 20.90gm of Erimin 5, a drug often used as a sedative.

The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM4,391. Police also confiscated a silver Perodua Myvi, valued at RM25,000, bringing the total value of the seized assets to RM29,391.

The suspect, is being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(2), and 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Under Section 39B, those convicted of drug trafficking face the death penalty or, if spared, a life sentence with at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days pending further investigation.

Police are urging members of the public with information on drug-related activities to come forward and report to the nearest police station to help combat the spread of illegal narcotics.
