MIRI:  Security has been intensified at the Miri Indoor Stadium to prevent any further incidents or unruly behaviour among fans attending the ongoing silat matches, according to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu.

“The police have heightened security measures around and within the stadium to ensure the smooth running of the matches, particularly those involving the Sarawak silat team,” said ACP Alexson when contacted early this morning.

This increased security comes in the wake of an incident on Wednesday night (Aug 21), where a bottle was thrown during a quarterfinal match between Sarawak’s Iman Syakila Mahdi and Federal Territories’ Nurin Alyaa’ Damia in the 45kg women’s category.

The disruption led to a temporary halt of the match.

In response, authorities have decided that all silat matches scheduled for Thursday (Aug 22) will proceed without an audience.

Only individuals with official passes, including volunteers, medical personnel, media representatives, and security staff, will be allowed entry to the venue.
