MIRI: The Miri Field Hospital which is currently at 91 percent completion will be fully completed this March said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
He said the semi-permanent hospital which was applied and approved through the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), will accommodate 100 beds.
“The RM2.5 million project includes the construction of the hospital’s semi-permanent physical structure, sheltered walkways, toilet cabins and also electrical and mechanical work,” he said.
He said this during working visit to the Miri Field Hospital project site here on Friday (Jan 26).
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, added that the construction of the field hospital is to reduce congestion at Miri General Hospital.
This would provide additional space as well as increasing the number of beds for daily wards and extended wards for cases of disease outbreaks.
“The field hospital was previously established under SDMC to accommodate for COVID-19 patients.
“However, if there are no cases of COVID-19, they can also use the field hospital for normal patients,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the implementation of the work had started in November 2022 and was supposed to be completed in September 2023, but was delayed due to technical and wiring problems.
During his visit, Lee also witnessed the handover of 10 units of wheelchairs from donors to meet the increasing demand for wheelchairs at the Miri General Hospital.
Also present were Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu and Miri Resident Jamalie Busri.
