MIRI: Continuous heavy rain throughout Monday (Nov 25) caused flash floods in Miri’s city centre, disrupting traffic and inundating several key areas.

The rain began in the afternoon and persisted late into the night, resulting in widespread flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.

By evening, many roads were rendered impassable, with smaller vehicles struggling to navigate the submerged streets.

The affected areas included Wireless Walk, Jalan Bintang, Jalan Cina, the Tanjong area, and Luak.

Reports indicated that roads leading to these locations were significantly flooded, causing major inconvenience to commuters and residents.

Social media platforms were inundated with video clips shared by netizens, capturing the extent of the waterlogging and its impact on daily life.

As of 11 pm on Monday, floodwaters had yet to recede in many parts of the city.

Local residents attributed the situation to inadequate drainage systems, which they claim are unable to cope with heavy rainfall.
