MIRI: The construction of the Miri Division Homeless Transit Centre will be completed in early 2023.
According to Miri Division Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, the centre’s location is behind the old Miri Division Resident’s Office in the centre of the city.
“We actually planned for the setting-up of the centre since early 2022. Its construction will take at least three months and as of now, we are still waiting for the land to be approved by the Sarawak government.
“Nevertheless, we are putting this centre in the priority list and we hope that its construction can be expedited to cater to the homeless here.”
He was speaking at the Miri Division Homeless Transit Point Coordination meeting here today.
“The centre is able to accommodate more than 20 people.
“It is sufficient as thus far, the Miri Social Welfare Office recorded that we have some 24 homeless people – 22 men and two women.”
