MIRI: Miri Hospital carried out a fire drill, testing the emergency response protocols in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
According to the press release, the exercise, conducted here today, is aimed at ensuring the safety of patients and staff in case of an actual fire emergency.
“At 9.18 am, the hospital’s fire alarm system activated, simulating a fire in the Plant Room of the Engineering Unit. Firefighters arrived at 9.27 am and proceeded to secure the area, coordinating a building evacuation from the second floor and rescuing two mock ‘victims’ from the scene.
“The fire was declared under control by 10.04 am, allowing the hospital to resume normal operations,” it said.
This drill, conducted annually in line with hospital policy, serves to reduce the risk of casualties and property damage by preparing staff to handle fire threats effectively. Following the exercise, the management of Miri Hospital conducted a post-mortem review to identify areas for improvement.
The hospital also expressed appreciation to the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station, Miri district police headquarters, and the concession company for their support.
They extended apologies to patients and visitors for delays caused during the drill, ensuring that such preparations are essential for safety readiness.
