KUCHING:  A transfusion medicine specialist at Miri Hospital Dr Norkhazarina Omar has appealed to the public to donate blood especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic as the blood bank here is facing low supply.

“Our donations have decreased down to 50 percent for the past three weeks. All blood types are needed now, especially during this conditional movement control order (CMCO),” she said.

She assured that the Miri Hospital blood bank always practised strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure that donors and staff members are safe from Covid-19.

In addition, all staff members are always monitored by Miri Hospital’s Infection Control Unit to ensure compliance with the SOPs set by the hospital’s top management.

Miri Hospital blood bank is operating as usual according to the following times and appointments are not required. From Monday to Thursday it opens between 8am to 12.15pm and 2pm to 4.15pm. On Friday the opening hours are from 8am to 11.15am and 2.15pm to 4.15pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

The blood bank is located in a building a distance away from the wards or quarantine area of Covid-19 patients, and a special parking space is also provided for donors.
