MIRI: A team from Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Miri (IPGKS) came up with a visually stunning mural that blends Sarawak’s cultural diversity with the story of Curtin Malaysia’s journey over the last 15 years.
For their outstanding effort the team won Curtin University Malaysia’s mural painting competition held in conjunction with its 25th anniversary and inaugural Borneo International Art Festival (BIFA).
The winning team, led by Muhammad Hanif Aris and guided by Dr Bell Su’ut, Head of the Department of Visual Arts at IPGKS, left an indelible mark with their intricate and innovative design.
The mural, now a permanent and prominent fixture on a wall at Curtin Malaysia’s Library Auditorium Complex, celebrates the spirit of Sarawak and the university’s legacy.
“This mural beautifully captures the essence of Sarawak’s heritage and Curtin Malaysia’s role in driving excellence in education and community engagement for the past 25 years,” said Associate Professor Fidella Tiew.
The mural was unveiled by Datu Dr. Rashidah Haji Bolhassan, Special Administrative Officer at the Ministry for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts representing the Minister and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.
The winning team was awarded a cash prize of RM3,000 in recognition of their achievement and the honour of leaving a lasting legacy at Curtin Malaysia.
