MIRI: The Miri Parliamentary is extending an invitation to the public from the B40 group to apply for the MyLesen B2 programme.
According to Miri MP Chiew Choon Man, the programme aims to facilitate more people in the lower income group (B40) acquiring driving licence, as half of the driving fees will be borne by the government.
“The programme also seeks to raise awareness of road laws among potential motorcycle users, promoting safer motorcycle driving practices and reducing instances of unlicensed motorcycle operation on the roads.”
He said this initiative carries the potential to alleviate transportation burdens, particularly for the B40 group and youth.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that the programme will directly and indirectly generate job opportunities within the local community, such as employment in the e-hailing sector or access to job opportunities located beyond one’s immediate vicinity.
“Through these efforts, Miri Parliamentary aims to empower individuals while fostering safer road practices and enhancing community prosperity.”
The MyLesen B2 initiative presents a unique opportunity for up to 1,000 participants to obtain a B2 motorcycle licence at a significantly reduced rate of only RM250, compared to the standard price of RM700 or more.
“This substantial discount offers a significant cost-saving opportunity, potentially saving participants around RM500 on the acquisition of their motorcycle licence.”
By making the process more affordable, the programme aims to remove financial barriers that often hinder individuals, especially those from the B40 group, from obtaining necessary licenses, he said.
“This cost-saving measure not only facilitates access to essential driving skills but also contributes to enhancing economic opportunities and social mobility,” Chiew added.
The eligibility criteria for participation are as follows:
Applicants must be Malaysian citizens residing within the Miri parliamentary constituency P219; Pprticipants must be aged 16 years old and above; the programme is specifically targeted towards individuals from the B40 group; applicants should be in good physical and mental health to ensure their ability to safely operate a motorcycle; those applying must not possess any existing driver’s licence; cleared record without being blacklisted by the Court/Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Police.
