MIRI: Police crippled two syndicate groups involved in cable theft, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals, including a business owner accused of purchasing stolen goods.

The arrests, carried out on Oct 4 and 7, mark a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation of cable thefts here.

According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the police have completed three investigation papers linked to these syndicates.

“The police have been actively addressing cable thefts in the region since the beginning of this year. Between Jan 1 and Oct 7, we have opened and investigated 36 cases under Section 431A of the Penal Code.

“So far, 32 cases have been solved, leading to the arrest of 57 suspects involved in cable thefts,” ACP Alexson revealed.

He urged the public to assist the police by providing any information that could lead to the apprehension of more criminals involved in these illegal activities.

“We greatly appreciate the community’s concern for the safety of personal property and the overall environment in Miri. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station or call 085-433730,” he added.
