MIRI: In a span of two days, Miri police conducted two successful drug raids, resulting in the arrests of a local man and a foreign national on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The first raid, which took place on Wednesday (June 26), led to the arrest of a 34-year-old local man.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a team of officers and policemen from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters carried out the operation at a house in Taman Tunku, Miri around 4.40pm.

During the raid, police seized a grey tin container holding a transparent plastic packet containing white crystal powder, suspected to be Ketamine, weighing 19.87 grams.

The estimated value of the seized drugs is RM3,974.00.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Convictions under these sections can lead to severe penalties, including imprisonment of not less than five years or life imprisonment, and up to 10 strokes of the cane. Section 15(1)(a) also provides for a fine of up to RM5,000.00 or imprisonment of up to two years, along with three years of police supervision.

The second raid took place on Thursday (June 27) at approximately 4.40pm, targeting a house in Bandar Baru Permyjaya.

This operation resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old foreign national.

Officers and personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters conducted the raid, uncovering 64 transparent plastic packets containing crystal chunks suspected to be Methamphetamine, weighing 24.09 grams.

The estimated value of these seized drugs is RM2,900.00. This case is also being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(A) of The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carrying similarly severe penalties as the first case.
