MIRI: Volunteers from the Malaysian Red Crescent Society branch here have reached out to two families from underprivileged backgrounds in Pujut Sungai Adong and Kampung Sealine.
Led by Dr Uma Devi, the visit included educational talks and essential aid distribution.
She told them about the dangers of plastics, the importance of cleanliness, and the need for healthy eating habits, aiming to raise awareness and encourage better practices among the families.
In addition to the educational session, representatives from the Miri City Council, Roslan Ali and Dayang Siti, gave a briefing to the families on the services provided by the council.
They also advised the families on how to approach the council regarding any issues they face within the community.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the distribution of stainless-steel food containers to the families, replacing plastic alternatives to emphasise the importance of environmental safety and health.
The team also provided other forms of aid, including dry food, stationery for school-going children, fresh chicken, and tools to repair leaky roofs.
Dr Uma stressed that such visits are part of the the society’s ongoing effort to uplift communities in need.
“We hope more volunteers will come forward to join us in making our community a better place,” she said, encouraging public participation in future initiatives.
