MIRI: Miri Division has recorded an increasing trend in COVID-19 cases since Epidemiology Week 4 (ME4/2022), said Minister in charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
He said that the increasing trend in Miri Division was in line with the increasing trend in COVID-19 cases at the state and national levels.
In this regard, he would like to remind the community in Miri Division not to be complacent and to always be vigilant.
“The threat of COVID-19 transmission is still all around us. The public is advised to remain compliant with COVID-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOP) as well as adopting 3W (Wash, Wear, Warn) and avoiding 3S (Avoid crowded, narrow areas and chat at close range).
“Negligence and failure to comply with S.O.P. Prevention of COVID-19 can result in widespread transmission of COVID-19,” he stressed in a press statement after chairing a meeting with the committee on Thursday.
He also advised the community in Miri Division to also get the COVID-19 vaccine (dose 1, dose 2, and booster dose) for those who have not received it.
“Besides the existing COVID-19 vaccination programme for adults and teenagers, MDDMC would like to inform that the Miri Division National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Kids (PICKids) has started on 7 Feb, 2022.
“As of Feb 9, 2022, a total of 1371 doses of Pfizer vaccine have been given by health facilities throughout Miri Division to children aged 5 to under 12,” he added.
He said in Miri District, 660 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were given, followed by Marudi District (370), Subis District (300) and Telang Usan District (41).
“Miri Hospital has started giving COVID-19 vaccine injections to children with comorbidies and seeking follow-up treatment at Miri Hospital from Feb 5, 2022.
“The overall achievement for the Miri Division PICKids Programme so far is 3.42 per cent,” he said.
He added that the COVID-19 vaccination programme for adults and teenagers was still being implemented as usual.
“Therefore, any individual in Miri Division who has not yet receive the COVID-19 vaccine or wants to get the booster dose vaccine, can go directly to the nearest health clinic to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” Lee said.
