KUCHING: The Sarawak Preschool International Convention 2022 will be held in Miri from Aug 26 to 28.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the convention will highlight the theme of ‘Adaptability and Resilience in the New Norm’.

She said this is a continuation of last year’s convention which was held during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although it was the first international convention to be held and the first to be held virtually at that time, it was attended by 2,102 participants, including 30 people from Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Japan and Indonesia,” she said when officiating at her ministry’s Excellent Service Awards ceremony at a hotel here on Tuesday night (July 26).

She said a total of 73 staff under her ministry were selected to receive the award.

“Hopefully, with the recognition, it can inject enthusiasm and be an inspiration to all members of the ministry, including the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the State Women and Family Department (JWKS) in normalising an excellent work culture,” she said.

Fatimah said the ceremony also aims to appreciate the services of 15 officers who will be retiring this year.

“They include JWKS director Norita Bawi who will retire soon. Thank you for your service as director of JWKS from March 3, 2021 to July 30, 2022.

“Although her tenure was short, she left a deep impact on JWKS staff and JWKS target groups, women and family institutions,” Fatimah said.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Women and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Community Wellbeing Development Mohamad Razi Sitam, KPWK permanent secretary Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, SWD director Noriah Ahmad, JWKS director Norita Bawi and other dignitaries.
