Miri venues ready, media urged to boost Sukma coverage

MIRI: All venues here are prepared to host six sporting events for the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma), according to Miri Resident Jamalie Busri.

The Games, scheduled from August 17 to 24, will be hosted across nine divisions, including Miri.

Jamalie also stressed the importance of media coverage to draw public attention and encourage local participation.

“We hope to produce the best Sukma in Miri, and we have already secured cooperation from the media in the Miri Cluster.

“We urge all media outlets to continue this partnership, promote the events, and ensure that the public are well-informed and motivated to attend,” he disclosed this during a media conference after officially declared open the Sukma 2024 Miri cluster media operation centre at Miri Indoor Stadium on today (Aug 13).

The sporting events in Miri include pencak silat, rugby, sailing, fencing, karate, and softball.

Specific venues have been designated for each sport: Marina Bay (sailing); Miri Stadium (rugby); Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club (fencing); IKBN Multipurpose Hall (karate); IKBN Football Field and SK Merbau Football Field (men and women’s softball) and Miri Indoor Stadium (pencak silat).

Jamalie said all venues are open to the public, encouraging residents to attend and support the events.

“We hope this event will run smoothly. Even if challenges arise, we are committed to resolving them swiftly.”
