BAU: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh has outlined three key strategies to enhance collaboration between the community and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in crime prevention efforts.

Speaking at the Sarawak Police Contingent Town Hall Discussion held at Siniawan’s Dewan Persatuan Masyarakat, he emphasised the importance of building trust, fostering cooperation, and enhancing education to create a safer community environment.

He stressed that trust and confidence in law enforcement are fundamental to any successful crime prevention initiative.

“We need to have confidence and trust in their duty and responsibility, whether it’s the police, the army, or other enforcement bodies. Trust is fundamental for crime prevention efforts to be effective, the community must trust PDRM and other law enforcement agencies.”

He also highlighted the need for strong cooperation between the community and PDRM, describing it as the cornerstone of crime prevention.

“If there is no cooperation between the community and PDRM, it becomes very difficult to share information. Cooperation between the police force and the community requires open lines of communication and collaboration to effectively tackle crime,” he added.

Education was the third key point he mentioned, stressing that it should begin at all levels including schools, families, and religious institutions to nurture a more disciplined generation.

“Education is important to nurture a more disciplined generation — a generation that knows how to be responsible and does not bring shame to the community,” he said.

Miro expressed hope that these three elements would foster a more effective partnership between the public and PDRM in combating crime in Serembu and beyond.

This initiative, he added, reflects a broader effort to engage local communities in maintaining public safety and ensuring that law enforcement agencies have the necessary support to perform their duties effectively.

He said the town hall programme serves as an essential platform for community leaders to collaborate with PDRM and share information related to crimes occurring in their localities.
