KUCHING: The Sarawak International Islamic High School will be built on about 10 acres of land at Jalan Diplomatik, near here.
Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) President Datuk Misnu Taha said the school will be equipped with various basic facilities including dormitories, classes, laboratories and more.
He added that its construction will begin early next year.
“Now we have Maahad Tahfiz Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (MATTARY), and soon we will build the Sarawak International Islamic High School.
“InsyaAllah, it will be completed in 2027 and we will start recruiting the first cohort of full boarding school students in the same year,” he said during an exclusive interview at the MIS Office, at Majma’ Mall, here on Tuesday (Aug 15).
He added that the international school will use the syllabus of Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah, Singapore and the Cambridge International Curriculum.
“On top of that, there will also be other subjects such as mathematics, science, physics and many more like the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
“So far I have been informed that the criteria to enter the school requires students to be fluent in English and Arabic,” he said.
In the meantime, he stated that MIS through the Bureau of Education Services (BPP) is also actively working on school policy matters including curriculum, staff, student recruitment, aspects of school funding and teacher training.
“When the school is fully operational, there will be 500 students who will use the National Curriculum, the Tahfiz and Hafazan Curriculum and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum,” he explained.
There are currently nine government-aided religious primary schools established by MIS and nine religious secondary schools in the state.
The two religious secondary schools established by MIS are SMK (A) Tun Ahmad Zaidi, Kuching and SM (A) Pasentren Abdul Taib Mahmud, Kota Samarahan.
