KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) does not tolerate wrongdoing and misconduct and will view each case of misconduct seriously and take firm action, including prosecuting the cases vigorously where appropriate.

MBKS places a strong emphasis on the integrity of public service and the council expects its staff to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

“At the individual level, efforts have been made to raise MBKS staff awareness of the high standard of integrity expected from them through several initiatives such as encouraging departments to hold briefings for their staff, to tie in with the promulgation of departmental guidelines.

“To curb the weaknesses and issues regarding governance, integrity and anti-corruption within our organisation, we have come up with the OACP (Organisation Anti-Corruption Plan) 2022-2025 and also MBKS Code of Ethics where we set out ethical guidelines and best practices for us to follow.

“This Code of Ethics will be distributed to all the staff for their guidance and compliance,” MBKS said in a press release today.

On top of that, the council has also provided a channel where the public can lodge complaints concerning integrity via its website where one can download the form to lodge the complaints.

“Even with the tight system and processes, and the efforts to build strong values, there may be one who tries to circumvent the rules.

“When wrongdoing occurs, we would adopt a zero-tolerance approach and take firm action against the staff, decisively and transparently.

“In addition, we take pride in serving Kuching and its people and uphold the public service values of integrity, service and excellence.

“As the city council, our work has become more challenging in the era of borderless information and also to meet the public’s high expectation of our immediate attention.

“We hope that working together with agencies like the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit Sarawak (UNION), Malaysia Integrity Institute (IIM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), can continue to instil various forms of advocacy, literacy and awareness education about the need to cultivate the practice of integrity in the daily lives of all members of our workforce,” MBKS added.
