KUCHING: Proton Holdings Bhd has issued an apology for mislabelling the states of Sabah and Sarawak during the launch presentation of its first electric vehicle (EV).
In a statement on the company’s Facebook page, Proton acknowledged the error that resulted in the incorrect labelling of both East Malaysian states.
“We deeply regret this mistake and understand the sensitivities it has stirred among our fellow Malaysians.
“Proton holds the unity and diversity of Malaysia in the highest regard, and we are committed to respecting and celebrating all states equally.
“We sincerely apologise for any misunderstanding caused and appreciate any feedback from the public,” the company said.
Proton assured that it will take greater care in future endeavours to prevent similar mistakes.
“Thank you for your understanding and continued support,” the company added.
The incident occurred during the launch event yesterday when a map presented in a slide showed the positions of Sabah and Sarawak swapped.
This mistake drew attention from netizens, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, who criticised the error.
“After 60 years of Malaysia’s formation, if big corporations in Malaysia still don’t know the most basic facts, what can we expect for the rest of ordinary Malaysians? What else does the rest of Malaysia not know about Sabah or Sarawak?” Dr. Sim asked.
