LUNDU: Firefighters have recovered a badly dismembered body of an Indonesian man
from Kalimantan who was attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Lobak Stoh Rambungan on Friday.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the body of 25-year-old Ridwan Jayadi was found just after 3pm yesterday during a search and rescue operation which entered its second day at Sungai Lubok Kertang.
The body was taken to a nearby jetty soon after 3.45pm by the search team before being handed over to the police for further action.
District police chief DSP Wong Chee Keong when contacted said the man was accompanied by his two cousins when the crocodile attacked him.
“He decided to dive into the river to free his stuck fish net. Moments later, he screamed for help and was seen struggling to free himself before
disappearing.
“About 10 minutes later a crocodile surfaced with the victim in its mouth about 15 metres away before disappearing. That was about 2.40pm,” said Wong.
His cousins rushed to seek help from nearby villagers after which a police report on the attack was lodged.
“Ridwan legally crossed into Sarawak in mid-July through the Biawak border post in Lundu to visit his family,” Wong said, adding that the man was from Sungai Dungun Sambas in Kalimantan Barat.
