SRI AMAN: An elderly man from Rumah Buda Meriok at Nanga Engkilili is feared to be missing in a forest.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the department received the report of the missing victim identified as Langkau Belum, 85, at 8.42pm on Saturday.
Initial report revealed that the victim left his house at 11am. The son upon realising the long absence of his father then lodged a report at the Engkilili police station.
Police then alerted the Sri Aman fire station to seek assistance in locating the missing victim. A team of firefighters were deployed to the scene headed by Bangga Baie.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation was postponed at 12am on Saturday but resumed yesterday morning with its search divided into three sections with its first section carrying out search by the river using the villagers’ boats.
The second section made their search on land with a 3km radius west side of the village whereas the third section covered 3km radius to the east of the village.
However, the search team failed to find any clues of the victim’s whereabouts.
As at 5pm yesterday, the victim was yet to be found and the operation was postponed to be resumed the following day (today).
The search team involved agencies such as the police, the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and about 40 villagers.
Separately, another SAR operation at Nanga Budu, Krian in Saratok entered its third day to track down Duncan Leslie, 26, who went missing on Tuesday.
