A 55-year old man, who went missing in the downstream of the Batang Mukah river has been confirmed to have drowned.

SIBU: A 55-year old man, who went missing in the downstream of the Batang Mukah River, has been confirmed to have drowned.

The body of Ningkan Inggas was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 3.05pm.

The SAR operation, which was in its second day, resumed yesterday morning to locate a missing person at Rumah Belayung Nanga Kalai, Ulu Mukah.

The victim was last seen wearing shorts and white T-shirt and was reported missing on Wednesday at 2.30pm.

According to the State Civil Defence Force (APM), the victim was feared to be missing when he did not return home after he went to the river with his boat.

The operation was divided between three teams to search for the victim.

The SAR operation was carried out by using the APM and Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) boats.

Meanwhile, on the first day of the SAR operation, the Bomba team found the boat used by the victim at the downstream of the Batang Mukah River; the boat was broken and stuck on a tree branch on the river bank.

With the victim not being found at that time, the SAR operation ended at 5.04pm on its first day.
