KUCHING: A man who went missing since last Saturday at Kampung Temurang, Jalan Puncak Borneo has been found safe.
The victim, identified as Yusuf Abd Ghafor was found by villagers at Kampung Jabir, three kilometres from where his footprints were spotted along a riverbank 100 metres from his house.
The village chief notified the authorities that the victim was found safe but weak. The victim was sent back to his house and the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off.
A State Fire and Rescue Department’s spokesperson said they were told yesterday by Beratok police station that a man went missing at 1.50pm on Saturday while his family members were out for Christmas carolling.
When the family returned home, the victim was nowhere to be found nor did he inform anyone of his whereabouts.
Concerned of his well-being due to his medical history, they lodged a missing person’s report.
The villagers searched for him in his garden and nearby forest since yesterday morning but to no avail.
They were, however, quite hopeful after finding, in the evening, fresh footprints on a nearby riverbank. They believed the footprints to be Yusuf’s.
After that, the search was focused on the area around where the footprints were found.
The search team also used a villager’s boat but it was tough going as communication could only be made via cellular line.
