PADAWAN: The body of a local man, found afloat in a river at Bintawa today (Feb 18), has been identified as Mohamed Hanafi Mohamed Nassir.

Padawan Police Chief Supt. Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad confirmed that the body was Mohamed Hanafi, who had been missing from his house at Taman Malihah, Jalan Batu Kawa-Kuching, since Thursday.

35-year-old Mohamed Hanafi Mohamed Nassir, reported missing by his family on Saturday is found dead in Bintawa river.

He said that Bintawa police had received information from the public around 8.40 am regarding a body floating in the Sarawak River barrage.

“At around 12 pm, the Marine Police Region 5 managed to recover the body and took it to the marine police’s jetty.

The body was then taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for identification and a post-mortem examination,” he said in a statement.

Abang Zainal said that the case is being classified as a sudden death and the public is urged to avoid speculating about the incident.

Mohamed Hanafi was last seen wearing a black shirt paired with light brown trousers when he left his family’s home in a blue Perodua Myvi car around 11 pm on Thursday.

After numerous efforts to contact Mohamed Hanafi failed, his father lodged a police report on his son’s disappearance at the Batu Kawa Police Station at 12.05 am on Saturday.
