KAPIT: The body of a 73-year-old man who fell from his boat while crossing Batang Rajang on Thursday was found yesterday (Jan 21).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the locals from Rumah Peter Nanga Tau managed to locate Lugom Benbang around 5.35pm.

Bomba photo shows rescuers retrieving the body some 1km downstream from where the victim is believed to have fallen.

“It was found some 1km downstream from where the victim is believed to have fallen.

“Rescuers quickly rushed to the scene to retrieve the body after being alerted of the finding,” the spokesman said.

The victim’s body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital.

The search operation ended around 7.20pm once the victim’s body was retrieved and handed over to the police.

Last Thursday (Jan 19), the victim’s family told authorities that the victim was steering his longboat from Sungai Yong to Sungai Belawai around 7.55pm.

The locals later spotted the victim’s boat going in circles at the Sungai Belawai estuary, but the victim was nowhere to be found.
