SERIAN: A 19-year-old teenager from Kampung Sejijak Mawang, reported missing since Sunday (Aug 25), was found safe and returned home today (Aug 26).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the teenager and his father had led a group of hikers up Mount Sipedang at about 8 am on Sunday.

“Later, at 3 pm, the teenager told his father that he planned to descend the mountain early to play futsal,” said Bomba in a statement.

Upon the father’s return at around 6 pm, he was informed by his wife that their son had not yet come home.

Concerned, he filed a police report to initiate a search.

A search and rescue operation was promptly launched by firefighters from the Serian station and local police.

The teenager returned home by 10.12 am, the following day with help from residents of Kampung Sungan, a neighbouring village.

He recounted that he had fallen and lost consciousness while descending the mountain.

When he awoke, it was already dark and he was unable to find his way back.

He managed to locate a small river and followed it to Kampung Sungan, approximately 5 kilometres away, where he sought the villagers’ assistance to return to his home.

Upon his return, the teenager was treated on-site by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team and subsequently taken to the Tebedu Health Clinic for further medical evaluation.
