MUKAH: Parents have expressed their concerns over the government’s recent decision to vaccinate children below 12 years old given that even adults are not completely protected after their immunisation.

While most parents are supportive because they view that the administration of the vaccine provides some protection, others are sceptical.

Researchers in the USA found that the skepticism was most pronounced among young mothers who tend to mistrust vaccinations in general, including treatments that prevent childhood diseases like polio.

Most youngsters with COVID-19 have mild or no symptoms at all, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that says babies younger than one year might be more likely to develop severe illness from COVID-19.

As a mother who has a child under the age of 12, there are too many health aspects that I need to take into account pertaining to the administration of the vaccine. I worry about side effects and there is no assurance that the children will not be infected with the virus after vaccination.

As a front line worker, vaccinating children and family members at home is necessary because they are exposed to the virus that may be borne from our workplace. In fact, we pay more to get the Influenza and pneumococcal vaccines every year to protect ourselves and our families. Hence, everyone needs to understand that this is for the good of all in the future and we must do our part so everything can go back to normal.

As a parent, I do not agree when the school asks for permission from us to allow our children to be vaccinated. I, myself had a bad experience from being jabbed. I think children under the age of 13 should not be vaccinated. However, children above 13 can be vaccinated, but not by force. The vaccine does not guarantee full protection against COVID-19.
