SIBU: The Sarawak badminton team for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) now has only one player left in each of the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Women’s Doubles categories.
In Mixed Doubles, Sarawak still has two pairs in contention: Kashley Kho Tze Yin and Lee Zi Suen, along with Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang and Genevie Lim Tsin Yeen.
However, Eric Choo Chung Li and Julia Yek Ping were eliminated as they were defeated by Kelantan’s mixed duo Kang Khai Xing and Chan Wen Tse.
In Men’s Singles, Goh Shun Huat remains Sarawak’s sole representative after Alwyn Chua Kai Xu was knocked out by Perak’s Chow Wern Soon.
Similarly, in Women’s Singles, Wong Ling Ching is the only remaining hope for Sarawak after Megan Tan was defeated by Penang’s Oo Shan Zi.
In Women’s Doubles, Sarawak is represented by April Lee Tong and Nurin Izzah Qistina Norman.
Unfortunately, no men’s doubles teams from Sarawak made it through to the next round, as both pairs—Isyraf Hafizin Ibrahim and Pui Wee Young, as well as Darrent Lim Lian Zhan and Felix Fong Jia Liang—were eliminated in a Round 32 match today (August 21).
All players will compete tomorrow in the Round of 16, aiming to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
