SIBU: A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a telephone shop and stealing a few units of handsets at Jalan Bengkel.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement on Saturday said that the police received a report at 2.30 am on Friday.

“The 45-year-old local man who is the owner of the shop informed that his shop had been broken into and several mobile phone units had been lost and suspected stolen,” he said.

Later on the same date at approximately 8am, the Sibu Criminal Investigation Department successfully arrested the suspect.

“The police also confiscated several mobile phone units during the arrest.

“The case was investigated under section 457 of the penal code and the suspect will be remanded until August 12 to assist the investigation,” he told.
