DISPLEASED WITH DEROGATORY REMARKS
KUCHING: Movement of Change Sarawak (MoCS) has lodged a police report against Pasir Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh for claiming that the Bible was distorted.
Three members of MoCS – coordinator Edmund Lee, Kuching and Serian MoCS coordinators, Mike Lim and Robert Ho – filed the report at Sekama Police Station here today.
Lee said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) decided to lodge a police report against the PAS politician after he refused to apologise, despite being called out by many parties.
“We are lodging the police report as concerned citizens, who want to make their expression and voices heard upon knowing the derogatory remarks made in the Parliament – surprisingly by an ‘Ustaz’ which touched on a very sensitive issue.
“As citizens, we are in support with YB Kelvin Yii (Kuching MP), YB Baru Bian (Ba’Kelalan MP), and Archbishop Simon Poh (Catholic archdiocese of Kuching),” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
Lee opined that Zawawi had crossed the line and thus, lodging a police report would make their voices heard against disrespectful comments on religion.
Meanwhile, MoCS legal advisor See Chee How said he was pleased to be with the three MoCS members to lodge the police report against Nik Muhammad, as an effort from the civil society.
“As citizens, we need to protect and preserve the harmony in Sarawak. The silence from the people may fuel religious bigotry and disrupt our peace and harmony – which will hurt the very fabrics of our multi racial and multi religious society, particularly Sarawak and Sabah,” he added.
