KUCHING: The Malaysian Ministry of Education (MoE) is currently implementing the new construction project of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sri Sadong, Serian.
This was according to MoE Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying who said that the project involves the construction of 12 classrooms and other related facilities and was approved in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11 MP) Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) Year 2016 with a cost of RM22.98 million.
“However, there is an increase in cost for the implementation of this project because the tenderer’s price offer exceeds the project cost.
“In connection with that, the decision of the Procurement Board which convened on December 28, 2022, has postponed the tender decision until the cost increase is approved or the scope reduction to use the existing cost,” she said.
She said this in reply to Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem (GPS-Serian) during the question for oral answers at Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Education Minister Fadhlina said MoE is in the final process of submitting a document for the consideration of the Standard and Cost Committee, Ministry of Economy to increase the cost of the project.
“Meanwhile, in the 12th MP RP2 Year 2022, the ministry has approved a land acquisition project to build a new school for SMK Serian II and currently in the preliminary work process which involves getting comments from technical agencies as well as preparing a land acquisition plan,” she said.
Fadlina also said that the ministry had submitted an application for the construction of a new Serian District Education Office (PPD) building for approval in RMK-12 RP3 Year 2023.
“However, the approval and implementation of this project are subject to priorities and the financial position of the government,” she said.
She stressed that the ministry is constantly striving to ensure that the provision of school facilities is adequate and in a good and conducive condition in order to guarantee the safety and comfort of educators.
