SERIAN: The Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak has welcomed the recovery plan by the federal Ministry of Education (MOE) on students who have dropped out of the education system.
Its Minister, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that the efforts made by the federal government will be beneficial for the Sarawakians.
“If the plan is to assist the dropout students in the rural area, then of course we will support it.
“But we should also not forget students in the urban area because such things have also happened,” he said.
He said this when asked by reporters after officiating at the History Subject Excellency programme for potential excellent students or Murid-Murid Potensi Lulus (POLUS) for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Serian district’s secondary schools at SMK Tun Abdul Razak in Siburan yesterday.
However, he would not also be commenting further on the issue because the plan is still in the works by MOE.
Earlier, it was announced by MOE that a recovery plan is in the works for students who have missed out on the national education system.
Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek said that at the moment, MOE does not have the complete data on how many students are involved and are currently collecting it alongside information from non-governmental organisations (NGO) including processing the input of the study on the issue.
In the meantime, Sagah then added that the POLUS SPM programme History subject is one of the cores, yet difficult subject for the students to score.
“Thus, when they fail the subject, it affects their future because they are not qualified to receive the SPM certificate for the subject’s failure.
“That being said, Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) will take the initiative by taking teachers who are the experts on the subject to provide tips on how to score the subject in a good way,” he added.
As many as 448 students from nine schools, namely SMK Tun Abdul Razak, SMK Padawan, SMK Siburan, SMK Tebedu, SMK Tebakang, SMK Taee, SMK Tarat, SMK Serian and SMK Balai Ringin are involved in the programme which lasts for three days, beginning January 10 until January 12.
