KUCHING: The Education Ministry (MoE) is preparing to introduce two vital guidelines addressing bullying and sexual harassment in the near future.
Its Minister Fadhlina Sidek underscored the importance of these guidelines, citing recent incidents of bullying, social crimes, and escalating racial tensions within educational institutions, which are now considered as significant issues.
“Very soon, we will be launching two crucial guidelines pertaining to bullying and sexual harassment.
“We absolutely will not tolerate three things: bullying, sexual crimes, and racial conflicts within educational institutions,” she said.
She said this during her speech at the Malaysia Day 2023 celebration held at the Institute of Teacher Education Batu Lintang Campus last night (Sept 15).
Fadhlina highlighted her ministry’s commitment to treating seriously any viral issues involving students and education.
She also stressed the importance of ensuring the accuracy of circulated issues.
“It is essential to make sure that the issues being publicised are true. This is one of the significant challenges we face, demanding educators to become more stringent in verifying any information,” she noted.
She referred to the major challenge as “Tak Viral Tak Setel” (TVTS), a phenomenon that requires them to be more resolute in scrutinising matters of trust, ensuring that every piece of information is assessed impartially.
“I have observed that education-related issues are the most widely disseminated,” she added.
