KUCHING: The Trust School programme by the Ministry of Education (MOE) will be expanded throughout the country in the effort to provide high quality education to all.

According to Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, who was represented by the ministry’s special advisor Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan, the programme will include the cooperation from both the private and public sectors for a different approach towards the education strategy.

He added that a new approach was needed in the implementation of the policy and education to enable the private sector to work together with the government in the education field.

“We welcome any participation from the private sector in the development of the country’s education, and our hope is to versify the Trust School model and creating a healthy competition among the ‘providers of services’ of the Trust School in order to provide parents with better options for their children.

“Smart sharing among private and government sector is needed to improve the education quality to ensure that the government’s spending can be optimised and the ministry is confident that with the given opportunity, the private sector will be actively involved in delivering the national education,” said Wan Saiful during the opening of Trust School Conference 2018 held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here yesterday.

He also said that the private sector was welcomed to provide their opinion on strengthening the Trust School model.

“This approach is in line with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto that promised to correct the Trust School model in order to reduce the education finance as a whole,” he explained.

The three-day conference themed ‘Transformation Beyond Border’ covers various activities including knowledge sharing session by education professional from Finland, leadership-focused programme for students, and many others.

The sixth conference saw more than 700 participants including school principals and headmasters, teachers, and also the private sectors.

The Trust School programme currently covers 83 schools and involves 10 state education departments (JPN), applying the best practice in the management and leadership, together with the pedagogy in learning and teaching (PdP) using ‘whole school improvement’ approach as a change in the education strategy.
