KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) has urged the Education Ministry (MoE) to come up with proper measures and guideline for teachers as a way to ensure they are definitely happy and excited in their job.
This is in line with the Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s statement at the NUTP Special Assembly on Dec 29 last year.
“The main role of a teacher is to educate our children but now they have been burdened with clerical work and as a result they are not able to focus on the learning process in the classrooms,” the minister said.
According to Mazlee, the nine-step “intervention” method to reduce the burdens faced by school teachers will be announced this January 2019.
Being aware that teachers are faced with more challenging tasks, STU president Macky Joseph hoped that the ministry would also engage better deal for Sarawak both from the federal and the state governments.
As such STU is urging for more engagements with teachers’ unions and associations to enable the ministry to listen to the grassroots and adopt the bottom-up approach in formulating policies.
