KUCHING: Mohamad Kasyful Azim Abdul Rahman was named ‘Best Student’ of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Rahman (STAR) during the school’s Best Student Awards 2016 ceremony last Friday.
Present to grace the ceremony was Datuk Haji Daud Abdul Rahman, who is the Patron of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
Earlier, STAR principal Senah Jan, in her opening remarks, said in this era, the students attended school not only for formal education but also to be trained to be knowledgeable and virtuous individuals to become the future leaders of the country.
“Various efforts have been made to make the students science pioneers and not just followers.This is very important to prepare the younger generation to meet the needs of the 21st century. With the existing education system, students are exposed to study groups and Higher Order Thinking Skills (KBAT),” she explained.
She said that in fact, in 2016, the country’s education system was further exposed with the introduction of English education programme known as the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP).
“In addition, the Dual Language Programme (DLP) and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) were also introduced to prepare students to coincide with one of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA), namely widening access to quality and sustainable education,” she added.
Senah also took the opportunity to congratulate the students who received the awards and hoped their outstanding achievements would continue up to university level.
