KUCHING: Eighty-five persons were arrested by the police for flouting the movement control order (MCO) between 8am Tuesday and 8am yesterday.
State Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Dev Kumar M. M. Sree, in a statement, said Sibu recorded the most arrests with 24 offenders.
“This was followed by Kuching with 19 arrests, Saratok (15), Miri (ten), Kota Samarahan (six), Betong (three), Sarikei (two), and one each in Bau, Lubok Antu, Tatau, and Dalat.
The latest figures bring the total number of arrests in Sarawak to 1,413 since the beginning of the MCO on March 18,” he said.
Dev Kumar added that in the same period, 191 persons were charged in court for defying the order.
Kuching recorded the most individuals charged with 56, followed by Kota Samarahan (32), Padawan (31), Sibu (24), Miri (19), Serian (18), Meradong (nine), and one each in Limbang and Kanowit.
To date, the number of individuals charged in court stands at 859.
It was also learnt that the rate of compliance with the MCO in the state was 97%.
