MIRI: A 10-kg monitor lizard ‘coolly’ crawling its way into class sent a whole classroom of Primary One pupils screaming and scrambling out Tuesday afternoon.
It was 3.16pm and the 17 pupils were intent on what their teachers was saying when the reptile crawled in.
Frightened pupils jumped out of their seats and rushed out of the classroom screaming. The last to leave was their teacher, who was as frightened as them.
Nonetheless, in the confusion, he could still keep his wits about him and called Miri Civil Defence force (APM) for help.
Within minutes, three members of the APM arrived and 15 minutes later, secured the reptile which looked to be too happy to surrender, as if realising its presence was not welcome.
It was understood that the reptile was later released into the wild.
