VIOLET Yong, Pending assemblywoman, has called upon the Works Minister to monitor the work performance of DAL HCM Sdn Bhd as the company is the appointed concessionaire in maintaining federal roads in the state.

“The company was appointed by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government before Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the Federal Government.

“Lately, I have received so many complaints on the poor road repair conditions along Jalan Tun Razak, particularly the stretch turning to Jalan Dato Bandar, Kenyalang Park and also Jalan Tun Jugah, Kuching,“ she said during her debate speech of the State Budget 2019 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, yesterday.

She added that road maintenance works along the two roads had never been satisfactory, even before the contractor was appointed.

“I have noticed that after a couple of weeks following the repair works, these patches will turn ‘wavy’ again.

“This pavement rutting problem has caused the road to become uneven,” Yong pointed out.

She said that as a result, driving along the sections of these roads posed serious safety hazards to road users, especially to the motorcyclists, and causes damage to vehicles as well.

“It is very dangerous for motorists to drive along the two roads because it could easily cause the motorcycles to skid off after bumping into the rutting pavement and end up in an accident,” she said.

She further reminded that the government is using the tax payers’ money to pay for the road maintenance works and thus, it is important for the government to ensure that repair works are properly done.
