KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) anticipates the current monsoon surge in Sarawak to continue until February 13.
Its director-general, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said this prediction is based on weather model analyses.
He said that this could lead to increased humidity, potentially resulting in continuous rain, strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea during this period.
“MET Malaysia has issued a Continuous Rain Warning for Sarawak, as well as a Strong Wind and Rough Sea Warning in the South China Sea, effective until February 13.
“Meanwhile, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds still have the potential to occur in several locations in the inland and western parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and other parts of Sarawak,” he said in a statement.
He added that MET Malaysia also expects dry and hot weather in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.
“The public is advised to always refer to the website www.met.gov.my and MET Malaysia’s official social media channels, as well as download the myCuaca app for the latest and accurate information,” he advised.
