Mooncake Festival a unique celebration of unity

KUCHING: Sarawak’s vibrant multicultural spirit came shining through during the Mooncake Festival as people from all walks of life converged for a unique celebration of unity.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian joined the festivities hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park (Friendship Park) on Tuesday night (Sept 17).

As Sarawak looks toward 2030 with a vision of inclusivity, prosperity, and sustainability, Dr Sim stressed the importance of togetherness in shaping the state’s future.

“All races celebrate the Mooncake Festival … you can see all the different races who don’t mind eating together, laughing together, and working together; so that everybody is happy, and this is important for Sarawak nation building,” he said.

Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, and the MBKS councillors who distributed lanterns and mooncakes to people of all ages were likewise satisfied with the turnout.

Wee who announced plans to upgrade Friendship Park with lighting and a floating music fountain said the Mooncake Festival would become an annual event.

“We plan to enhance this area with more environmentally friendly lighting and install a 15-foot floating music fountain, which we hope to unveil by the end of the year,” he said.

On another note, Dr Sim emphasised the critical need for new dialysis machines in Sarawak to enhance healthcare services and improve the quality of life for patients requiring dialysis treatment.

“We need new machines for the people who need dialysis as it can prolong their lives for another 15 to 20 more years,” he said to the media after his walkabout.

In this context he urged the public to take responsibility for their well-being by embracing a healthy lifestyle and consciously maintain good health through regular exercise, balanced nutrition and preventive care.
